Downfall Creek Bushland Centre

At Raven Street Reserve in Chermside West, Brisbane City Council’s family-focused environment centre combines an outdoor walk with hands-on learning. Children can explore interactive displays and follow the Hide ’n’ Seek trail, while families can also use the walking trails, playground and picnic facilities. A year-round events program adds guided and themed opportunities. The centre is wheelchair accessible.

Chermside Aquatic Centre

Families can swim, cool off in the splash lagoon or visit the waterpark at this council-owned Chermside facility. Rackley learn-to-swim lessons and party bookings are also available. The waterpark operates on weekends and during school holidays from October to April, so check current entry fees, operating conditions and the suitability of facilities before setting out.

Brisbane City Council school holiday events

Council’s holiday calendar is a useful starting point when children and teenagers need something different to do. Sandgate Playgroup

Sunshine Parenting Program

Peach Tree’s peer-led, six-week workshop supports mothers aged 18 and over who have a baby under 12 months and are experiencing challenges with mental wellbeing during the postnatal period. North Brisbane groups are held at Peach Tree House in Nundah. Mothers may refer themselves, and health professionals can also make referrals.

Act for Kids Wooloowin

Children and parents can access a range of therapy, education and family services at this Wooloowin location. Offerings include protective-behaviours education for Grade 1 children, early education for ages 2.5–5, an in-home parent education curriculum for families with children aged 0–5, and support for parents and relatives who feel overwhelmed. Families should contact the service to discuss access or arrange an appointment.

AQ Brighton

Autism Queensland’s Brighton centre serves Brisbane’s northside through allied health and diagnostic assessments, individual therapy, therapy groups and early childhood intervention. Specialist behaviour support, parent education, telepractice and specialist schooling are also offered. Fees apply to AQ services and supports, so families can ask about relevant pathways, costs and requirements when enquiring.

Carers Queensland NDIS Local Area Coordination

Local area coordinators assist people with disability aged 9–65, as well as their carers and families, to understand and apply for the NDIS, connect with mainstream or community supports, and use an approved plan. 🤝 Family and culturally responsive assistance

ATSICHS Brisbane Family Wellbeing Service

Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander families living in the Brisbane North catchment can access this free service. Assistance may cover referrals to parenting programs, housing advocacy, budgeting, relationships and communication, education and employment information, and connections with other services. Appointments can take place at home, in a café or at an ATSICHS clinic, offering families some choice about where they meet the team.

Lutwyche Family Participation Program

For Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families dealing with Child Safety, this ATSICHS Brisbane program supports meaningful involvement in decisions affecting children and family life. An Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander convener can assist during meetings. The program may also arrange a culturally appropriate meeting space and connect families with relevant support services across Brisbane.

Brisbane North Intensive Family Support

Communify delivers this free, voluntary intensive home-visiting service with Act for Kids. It is for Brisbane North families with children or young people from unborn to 17 years who are experiencing challenges in raising and nurturing them. Families can self-refer, and providers can also refer. A waitlist currently applies. The service does not provide child counselling, emergency relief or accommodation.

🧭 Specialist support during difficult circumstances

Brisbane Youth Service

Based nearby in Fortitude Valley and serving Brisbane, Brisbane Youth Service helps young people aged 12–25—and their children—who are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of it. Support includes housing, health care, family assistance, young-women’s services and practical help. Young people can phone 07 3620 2400 for an appointment or attend the Fortitude Valley walk-in service during its listed afternoon hours.

Micah Projects Domestic and Family Violence Services

Women and children experiencing, or at risk of, domestic and family violence can receive immediate and ongoing support through Micah Projects. Workers provide information, discuss options, advocate and make links with other providers. Brisbane Domestic Violence Service uses confidential North Brisbane locations and can communicate by phone, email or at a place the person identifies as safe.

Evolve Therapeutic Services – Brisbane North

Children’s Health Queensland’s Enoggera-based team works with eligible children and young people, families and carers to strengthen social and emotional wellbeing and participation at school and in the community. Access is restricted. Only the Department of Families, Seniors, Disability Services and Child Safety can refer Queensland children from birth to 18, and child-protection and wellbeing criteria apply.
